Who We Are

CJSHS fully supports Plumas Unified School District's mission “to collectively inspire every child in every classroom, every day.”

Chester Junior-Senior Highschool, Home of the Volcanoes, was founded in 1980. CJSHS has a long tradition of school pride, academic success, and community involvement. We believe that all students can achieve at high academic levels.

Chester Jr./Sr. High School (CJSHS) is located in northeastern California at the western end of Plumas County at the beginning of the Cascade Mountain Range. It serves the students of the Lake Almanor Basin and includes the towns and communities of Chester, Lake Almanor West, Canyon Dam, the East Shore, Hamilton Branch, and the Peninsula.

Plumas County includes more than 100 lakes, 1,000 miles of rivers, and streams with over a million acres of national forest (70% of the land in our county). Larger than the state of Delaware, Plumas County encompasses almost 2,600 square miles. Elevations range from 1,800 to 8,370 feet. Plumas County is an ideal spot for vacation, with only eight people per square mile. We are also experiencing a growth in those who are of retirement age. Surrounding counties are also rural, and the nearest shopping centers are Susanville, Chico, and Reno, Nevada.

We love our “Mountian Kids.”

Our school has a wonderful connection to the community of Chester and the surrounding area.  There is a strong relationship between the community, service organizations, and the district leadership that allows the site, city, and district to assist in achieving the vision and mission of the site and that all items align with district priorities and the LCAP.

CJSHS is committed to creating a school climate and rigorous academic program that realizes its shared vision. As an educational community, it is our privilege to achieve practices that engage ALL students academically and promote personal achievement to develop the whole student and prepare them for the rapidly changing world. We work hard to meet the needs of all of our students. We support our students by preparing them for post-secondary education, tech schools, or various other careers by giving them the skills and experiences needed in a technological world, accommodating individual needs and learning styles, and offering extra-curricular activities.
